Technical Lead (Legal Operations)

Location: Hybrid in San Francisco or Palo Alto; must be based in the US

Salary: $150K – $250K + Equity

What you will do

• Architect and build the Legal and Operations Engineering platform, incorporating agents, workflows, and evaluation infrastructure.
• Own the end-to-end development of the enterprise contracting automation system.
• Ship in-product legal surfaces built on Perplexity.
• Consolidate ad-hoc legal bots, prompts, and scripts into a documented, reusable platform with clear guardrails.
• Serve as the technical partner to the General Counsel, translating complex legal workflows into engineered systems.
• Evaluate and replace third-party tools with purpose-built internal systems to gain a structural advantage.

Requirements

• 7+ years of backend software engineering experience shipping production systems at scale.
• Must be based in the US to be eligible for the stated compensation and benefits.
• Working knowledge of legal concepts, or experience in legal operations/paralegal work.
• Track record of building scalable processes and foundational systems from scratch in high-growth startup environments.
• Fluency with modern legal tech and AI tools, including disciplined human-in-the-loop practices.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for interacting with senior executive stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Prior experience at an AI-native, SaaS, or consumer technology company.
• Familiarity with e-billing platforms (e.g., Brightflag), matter management, CLM, and entity management systems.
• Builder mentality and comfort with rapid context-switching in ambiguous environments.
