Highway Engineer

Location: Richmond, Virginia, United States; Workplace: On-site

What you will do

• Contribute to transportation engineering projects covering roadways, trails, and pedestrian infrastructure.
• Design horizontal and vertical alignments, drainage systems, signing, and pavement markings.
• Perform safety assessments and develop erosion and sediment control plans.
• Prepare maintenance of traffic plans and construction-related documents under the supervision of a senior highway engineer.
• Prepare reports, conduct field reconnaissance and inspections, and create project renderings.
• Attend required project meetings and conferences.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Transportation from an ABET-accredited college.
• 5–7 years of professional experience.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Experience or knowledge using MicroStation, AutoCAD, OpenRoads, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office applications.
• Experience with VDOT and local government projects and their design software.
• Desire to work in a team environment.

Nice to have

• EIT Certificate or the ability to obtain one within 12 months.
• PE License.
• Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software.
