Software Engineering Manager - Transfers (Java)

What you will do

• Lead and coach a cross-functional Product Engineering team responsible for building and operating transfer applications.
• Own predictable, value-driven engineering delivery in partnership with Product Managers and Programme leadership.
• Provide technical leadership across Java microservices, architecture, quality, security, operability, and cloud-native design.
• Balance feature delivery with technical debt reduction, resilience, and regulatory commitments.
• Line-manage engineers, support career development, contribute to hiring, and foster psychologically safe teams.
• Take accountability for live-service health, incidents, operational resilience, and preventative improvements.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of experience leading software engineering teams in complex or regulated environments.
• Strong Java engineering background, including Java 21, Spring Boot, RDBMS, and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with AWS, event-driven architectures, and product-led agile software delivery.
• Strong stakeholder management across Product, Operations, and Engineering.
• Excellent communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Employment sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Financial services experience, especially with pensions and ISA products.
• Experience with TypeScript.
• Experience in agent-first organisations.
