Director of Software Engineering (AI/Data Platforms)

Location: Sunnyvale, California, United States. Flexible hybrid arrangement with work from the hirify.global office or home, but at least 60% or 24 hours of the work week must be on-site. The schedule may exceed this requirement based on business needs.

Annual base pay: $224,000–$321,000, plus potential bonus or incentives.

What you will do

• Lead, mentor, and scale a multidisciplinary global engineering organization of 10+ people.
• Own the technical roadmap, resource allocation, and delivery of strategic product milestones.
• Architect and govern cloud-native serverless and microservices systems on AWS.
• Define big data platform strategy for petabyte-scale datasets using Snowflake, Databricks, Apache Iceberg, AWS Glue, and related technologies.
• Direct AI-enabled product modernization, including RAG-based semantic search and conversational search workflows.
• Oversee ETL pipelines, Java/Spring Boot APIs, CI/CD automation, infrastructure as code, security, and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

• 15+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including 5+ years in engineering leadership.
• Experience managing cross-functional, global engineering teams and working with executive stakeholders.
• Expertise in Java, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, distributed systems, database sharding, and high-performance microservices.
• Deep experience with Snowflake, Apache Iceberg, AWS Glue, Spark, Elasticsearch, AWS infrastructure, Terraform, Ansible, and Jenkins.
• Architecture experience with Retrieval-Augmented Generation, LLM frameworks, and semantic or conversational search.
• Ability to work on-site in Sunnyvale for at least 60% of the work week. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience is required; a master’s degree is preferred.

Nice to have

• Experience with regulated, high-volume data domains such as genomics, healthcare, bioinformatics, or fintech.
• Knowledge of GA4GH or similar data standards.
