What you will do

• Lead and develop a cross-functional team of engineers, owning velocity, performance, and team culture.
• Remain hands-on by writing production code (approx. 30% of time) and leading design reviews.
• Implement an AI-native operating model by deploying agents and building evaluation frameworks to increase throughput.
• Define and enforce engineering standards for code quality, system design, testing discipline, and deployment practices.
• Partner with Product and Operations to refine roadmaps and prioritize high-leverage problems.
• Own system architecture, making build-vs-buy decisions and managing technical debt deliberately.

Requirements

• Proven experience managing and growing engineering teams within a startup environment.
• AI-native fluency: experience deploying AI agents in production and designing evaluation frameworks is required.
• Strong engineering fundamentals with the ability to write production-quality backend or fullstack code.
• Location: Must be based in New York City.
• Ability to lead senior-level system design discussions and mentor ICs toward career growth.
• High ownership orientation and experience collaborating with non-technical stakeholders.
