Senior Systems Engineer (Linux)

Location: Hybrid in Atlanta, Austin, Denver, Seattle, or Washington DC, United States. Candidates advancing to the offer stage may need to attend an in-person interview at a hirify.global office or hub.

Estimated annual salary: $185,000–$254,000 for New York City, Washington, and Washington DC-based hires; $156,000–$215,000 for Colorado-based hires. Compensation may vary by work location.

What you will do

• Design and implement systems across the cloud control plane, Linux appliance runtime, telemetry pipeline, and physical, virtual, and cloud deployment environments.
• Build secure Linux networking capabilities using IPsec, MASQUE, eBPF, and kernel networking primitives.
• Develop distributed control-plane and state-management systems for reliable configuration delivery across intermittently connected device fleets.
• Secure device identity and lifecycle operations, including secure boot, immutable operating-system images, credential rotation, staged upgrades, rollback, and recovery.
• Build telemetry, diagnostics, synthetic tests, support bundles, and remote operations for effective fleet observability.
• Lead architecture, production rollouts, incident follow-up, technical reviews, and cross-team initiatives while mentoring engineers.

Requirements

• 8+ years of professional software engineering experience building complex production systems.
• Strong programming skills in Rust, C, C++, Go, or a comparable systems language, with the ability to work with TypeScript.
• Experience with Linux networking internals, eBPF/XDP, netlink, and network namespaces.
• Experience designing distributed control planes, desired-state reconciliation, remote configuration, or systems managing large intermittently connected fleets.
• Experience with secure systems, threat modeling, least privilege, credential handling, and software supply-chain integrity.
• Technical leadership, product judgment, customer-focused decision-making, and responsible use of AI-assisted engineering tools.

Nice to have

• Experience with SD-WAN, SASE, SDN platforms, network operating systems, or networking products.
• Experience with embedded Linux, immutable image-based updates, UEFI Secure Boot, TPMs, hardware-backed identity, or remote attestation.
• Experience with high-availability networking, dynamic routing, multi-WAN, traffic steering, policy enforcement, fleet testing, staged rollouts, or remote diagnostics.
