Sr. Software Engineer (Embedded Linux)

Base pay for Washington applicants: $248,830.00–$348,361.65 per year. Other site ranges may differ.

hirify.global develops reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems and is building TeraWave, a satellite communications network using interconnected LEO and MEO satellites.

What you will do

• Design Linux platform infrastructure, including process management, initialization systems, and inter-process communication frameworks.
• Develop kernel modules and device drivers for custom hardware and platform requirements.
• Modify kernel subsystems to improve scheduling, memory management, and I/O performance on embedded satellite systems.
• Bring up hardware prototypes with silicon, electrical, and RF teams and optimize kernels for custom SoCs.
• Debug system-level performance issues, tune networking for satellite links, and implement secure boot, runtime monitoring, and hardware-backed credential management.
• Own the software lifecycle from architecture and development through deployment aboard LEO satellites.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related STEM discipline, or 10+ years of software development experience.
• At least 8 years of C or C++ experience in Linux or embedded environments.
• Deep Linux kernel knowledge, including driver development, memory management, and system-level debugging.
• Experience with GDB, perf, eBPF, and Buildroot, Yocto, Bazel, or comparable build systems.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee or asylee.

Nice to have

• Infrastructure experience with large distributed systems or device fleets at scale.
• Rust or Python experience for systems tooling and automation.
• Knowledge of TCP/IP, UDP, Ethernet, Linux networking, and custom routing protocols.
• Experience with mission-critical aerospace, automotive, medical, or other high-reliability systems.
• Ability to troubleshoot through assembly code and hardware-level diagnostics.
