Principal Embedded Software Engineer (UAS/Robotics)

Location: Moorpark, California, United States; onsite work in an office and R&D environment

Salary: $147,000–$224,250 per year

What you will do

• Lead the design, development, coding, testing, debugging, and optimization of embedded system software for unmanned aircraft and robotic systems.
• Integrate sensors, embedded processors, autopilots, payloads, software-defined radios, and other functional components.
• Develop system requirements, test plans, diagnostic tools, prototypes, proof-of-concept demonstrations, and validation tests.
• Support hardware selection by recommending processing, memory, and storage requirements.
• Lead software transitions from development to production and certification, including configuration control and design reviews.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and program management teams to estimate scope, timelines, and budgets.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 12–15 years of relevant software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Python, C, C++11, C++ STL, and/or OpenCL, with demonstrated system troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with embedded communication protocols including RS-485, RS-232, CAN, I2C, SPI, and USB.
• Experience with IDEs, defect tracking tools, mathematical and analytical problem-solving, and software testing.
• Must provide documentation verifying U.S. person status under ITAR/EAR requirements; some contracts require current U.S. citizenship.

Nice to have

• Advanced degree and experience with Test Driven Development, unit testing, automated builds, automated testing, and deployment.
• Experience with STM32 processors, RTOS platforms such as FreeRTOS or µC/OS, and embedded Linux systems.
• Experience developing Linux/ARM drivers and using Video4Linux; familiarity with ROS.
• Knowledge of electronics, laboratory equipment, object-oriented programming, and multithreaded design.
