Senior Software Engineer (Embedded)

Location: Moorpark, California, United States; onsite work in an office and R&D environment

Salary: $122,500–$187,000 per year

What you will do

• Develop, integrate, test, and debug embedded software for aircraft, payloads, sensors, processors, software-defined radios, and robotic systems.
• Design software for prototypes and products while maintaining configuration control and following established development processes.
• Write system requirements, test plans, diagnostic tools, and validation procedures; support hardware selection and resource planning.
• Lead rapid prototyping, proof-of-concept demonstrations, conceptual testing, and design reviews.
• Transition development software into production and certification environments in collaboration with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
• Support flight testing, field testing, and troubleshooting at approved flying locations.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 8–12 years of relevant software engineering experience.
• Proficiency in Python, C, C++11, C++ STL, and/or OpenCL, with experience troubleshooting complex systems.
• Experience with IDEs such as Visual Studio or Eclipse, defect tracking tools, and protocols including RS-485, RS-232, CAN, I2C, SPI, and USB.
• Applicants must qualify as a U.S. person under ITAR/EAR requirements or be eligible for an export license; U.S. citizenship is required for some government contracts.
• Periodic travel and work in office, R&D, and field-test environments are required; irregular hours, weekends, and holidays may be necessary around deadlines.

Nice to have

• Experience with STM32 processors and RTOS platforms such as µC/OS or FreeRTOS.
• Experience with Video4Linux, Ubuntu Linux kernel development, Linux/ARM drivers, or Robot Operating System (ROS).
• Electronics knowledge and experience using laboratory equipment.
• Experience leading or supervising others and contributing to system-level design.
