Studio Design Engineer (Automotive)

Location: Hybrid in Warren, Michigan; on-site at the Warren Tech Center at least three days per week. This role is not eligible for relocation assistance.

What you will do

• Integrate and balance vehicle models with Design, Architecture, SMT, Performance, Human Factors, and Manufacturing.
• Create and refine engineering criteria and lead integrated solutions for packaging issues while protecting design aesthetics.
• Evaluate design alternatives using physical and mathematical models and apply DFSS to manage cost, mass, timing, assembly, and dimensional-variation tradeoffs.
• Ensure package and studio models meet customer-facing targets for spaciousness, visibility, occupant accommodation, storage, cargo, and access.
• Lead cross-functional surface and integration meetings, drive issue resolution, and communicate decisions and escalations.
• Create NX models and support surface development across digital models, full-size clay models, clinic properties, and VR/MR mockups.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field.
• 5+ years of experience in a related area.
• Understanding of engineering theory, automotive design principles, manufacturing processes, and engineering specifications.
• Experience with CAD, including Unigraphics/NX.
• Strong analytical, communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across functions.

Nice to have

• Coursework in statistics, mechanics of materials, vehicle or occupant packaging, or integrated design.
• DFSS Black Belt certification.
