Assistant General Counsel, Canada (Crypto)

Location: Toronto, Canada; in-person attendance required at least 3 days per week

Base pay: $144,500–$170,000 CAD annually, plus bonus opportunities, equity, and benefits.

What you will do

• Provide end-to-end legal counsel for retail cryptocurrency products and services.
• Advise product and compliance teams on launches, features, and ongoing legal requests.
• Identify regulatory risks, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure compliance with applicable laws.
• Advise on Canadian cryptocurrency regulatory developments.
• Engage with Canadian securities regulators and self-regulatory organizations on compliance and innovation matters.
• Build trusted relationships across the business and support coordinated product development.

Requirements

• J.D. degree from a law school accredited by the Federation of Law Societies of Canada.
• Membership in at least one Canadian province or territory bar in good standing.
• 7+ years of relevant experience in a law firm, government agency, technology, financial services, brokerage, or fintech company.
• Experience with legal and regulatory requirements related to crypto, securities, derivatives, money transmission, and/or sanctions.
• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including communication with non-legal audiences.
• Ability to work proactively in a fast-paced environment and drive cross-functional alignment.
