Senior Forward Deployed Engineer (AI Healthcare)

Location: United States; fully remote with approximately 5% travel

Salary: $135,000–$160,000 annually, plus benefits and bonus

What you will do

• Own end-to-end technical integration design and execution for enterprise customers, from scoping through production deployment.
• Lead technical discovery, proof-of-concept work, proposals, and feasibility estimates during pre-sales cycles.
• Design architectures connecting customer IT environments with Cohere’s platform, balancing customer constraints and platform capabilities.
• Integrate AI/ML-enabled healthcare features such as clinical decision support, automated review, and intelligent routing while addressing clinical safety and regulatory requirements.
• Create integration designs, architecture diagrams, data mappings, API guides, and operational runbooks.
• Build reusable integration patterns, improve platform capabilities, collaborate cross-functionally, and mentor junior team members.

Requirements

• 6–10+ years of software engineering experience with a strong backend and systems focus.
• Healthcare experience, especially with payers, health plans, managed care organizations, workflows, data standards, and regulatory requirements.
• Expertise in data architecture, data modeling, transformation logic, schema design, middleware, message queues, and event-driven architectures.
• Hands-on AWS experience with Lambda, ECS, RDS, S3, API Gateway, and EventBridge.
• Experience with RESTful APIs, webhooks, OAuth2/OIDC, SAML 2.0, JWT, mTLS, API key management, and production coding in Python, Node.js, Java, Go, or similar languages.
• Experience working directly with enterprise customers in technical implementation roles and independently defining and executing solutions.

Nice to have

• Payer-side technology experience, including prior authorization, utilization management, or claims processing.
• Familiarity with FHIR, X12, HL7v2, AI/ML integration, LLMs, infrastructure as code, and regulated environments such as HIPAA, SOC 2, or HITRUST.
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, query optimization, IAM, SSO, federated identity, RBAC, and multi-tenancy security.
