Software Development Engineer II - Payments (Java/Kotlin)

Location: Seattle, Washington, United States; office attendance required at least three days per week. Relocation assistance is not available.

Salary: $119,000–$166,500 total cash annually, with potential pay up to $190,500 based on sustained performance.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain scalable backend payment services and APIs for consumer and B2B payment processing.
• Write clean, maintainable, modular, and optimized code using software design principles, data structures, design patterns, and computer science fundamentals.
• Implement secure data handling practices for payment information and compliance requirements.
• Apply architectural patterns and GenAI capabilities to improve system design and innovation.
• Improve service reliability through observability, automation, and continuous operational improvements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-impact payment features.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a related technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
• At least 2 years of backend software development experience with cloud-based and distributed systems at scale.
• Proficiency in Java or Kotlin and experience integrating services with relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure and test automation, and Agile development environments.
• Experience supporting production distributed systems through monitoring, debugging, incident resolution, and root-cause analysis.

Nice to have

• Experience with payment platforms or backend services using GenAI technologies.
• Experience contributing to multiple multi-quarter, cross-team projects.
• Experience designing and deploying scalable services on AWS.
• Master’s degree in a related technical field.
