Engineering Manager, Safety Processing (AI)

Location: Must reside in or be willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties)

Salary: $248,000 – $279,000 + equity + benefits

What you will do

• Lead three squads (Review, Enforce, and Tooling) to set the direction for automated review and appeals systems.
• Drive the transition toward near-total automation of review decisions while maintaining precision and recall against human baselines.
• Architect a unified appeals path and develop tooling that scores decision quality.
• Optimize internal investigator tools to reduce complex investigation times from hours to minutes.
• Manage regulatory and child-safety compliance while maintaining high engineering standards.
• Hire, coach, and grow the engineering team through empathetic leadership.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience with a strong backend and distributed systems background.
• 2+ years of experience managing engineers.
• Proven experience shipping production LLM systems where outputs drive business decisions.
• Experience working with human-in-the-loop operations, quality assurance, and reviewer calibration.
• Ability to remain steady under escalation, including legal deadlines and regulatory scrutiny.
• Must be based in or relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area.

• Experience in trust and safety, fraud, integrity, or abuse engineering at a consumer platform.
• Passion for Discord and the gaming community.
• Experience building internal tools for operations or review teams.
