Engineering Manager, Safeguards (AI)

Location: London, UK; hybrid work with staff expected to be in an office at least 25% of the time

What you will do

• Lead, grow, and develop a team building investigation, review, and enforcement tooling for first-party products and third-party cloud platforms.
• Define the vision and roadmap for a review tooling platform covering analytics, privacy-compatible data access, and a sandbox for rapidly developing review interfaces.
• Develop the strategy for scaling review through automation, including Claude-assisted and Claude-driven workflows that keep human reviewers involved where judgment is needed.
• Partner with policy, operations, legal, privacy, and data science stakeholders to translate enforcement needs into reliable systems.
• Ensure tooling evolves alongside privacy primitives and data retention commitments.
• Provide clarity in an ambiguous environment, contribute to engineering-wide initiatives, and maintain a high-performing team.

Requirements

• Experience managing software engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, and engineer development.
• Technical background in full-stack or platform engineering with the ability to engage deeply in architecture and design discussions.
• Experience shipping internal tools or platforms for demanding operational users and measurably improving their workflows.
• Experience collaborating cross-functionally with operations, policy, legal, privacy, or data science partners.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education, training, or experience; relevant field of study required.

Nice to have

• 4+ years of management experience and 10+ years of industry software engineering experience.
• Experience with trust and safety, integrity, fraud, abuse-prevention, moderation, or human-review systems at scale.
• Experience designing systems under strict privacy, compliance, or data governance constraints, including zero-data-retention environments.
• Experience integrating LLMs or agentic systems into operational workflows and building developer platforms or extensible tooling frameworks.
