What you will do
- Design and conduct high-temperature equilibrium experiments using advanced gas-mixing furnaces.
- Analyze experimental samples using LA-ICP-MS and SEM/EDS to quantify trace element distributions.
- Develop thermodynamic datasets describing element behavior under EAF and REF conditions.
- Integrate experimental results into thermochemical models (FACTSage) for process simulation and optimization.
- Collaborate with researchers at and Tata Steel R&D to communicate findings through reports and scientific publications.
Requirements
- MSc degree in Materials Science, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Geoscience, or a closely related field.
- Strong interest in thermodynamics, high-temperature processes, and experimental research.
- Experience with materials characterization techniques such as SEM or ICP-MS.
- Basic knowledge of thermodynamic modelling or willingness to learn tools like FACTSage.
- English proficiency required for communication, doctoral courses, and thesis writing.
- Must be based in or relocate to Delft, Netherlands.
