TL;DR
Fuel Cycle Intern (Fusion Energy): Operating and improving gas separation systems that recycle fuel from a fusion machine’s vacuum system, with an accent on thermodynamics, fluids, cryogenics, and data analysis. Focus on optimizing system parameters, designing and running experiments, analyzing results, and developing recommendations for fuel-cycle technology.

Location: On-site in Everett, Washington; full-time for at least 12 consecutive weeks during summer 2027.

Compensation: $48 per hour.

hirify.global develops fusion power technology and is working toward building a commercial fusion power plant.

What you will do

  • Operate and learn gas separation technology used in the fusion fuel cycle.
  • Understand related vacuum, cryogenic, and system-level technologies.
  • Optimize system parameters and modify the test setup.
  • Design experiments, collect and analyze data, and investigate system improvements.
  • Follow safety protocols and operate the system independently.
  • Present a final report with findings, process details, and recommendations.

Requirements

  • Ability to work full-time on-site in Everett, Washington for a minimum of 12 consecutive weeks during summer 2027.
  • Current enrollment in a bachelor's degree program in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Nuclear Engineering.
  • GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Strong understanding of thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, mass transfer, heat transfer, and mechanics.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and familiarity with MATLAB, Python, and Excel.
  • Basic understanding of chemistry and steady-state systems, with the ability to learn and operate a system independently.
