Head of Finance (Defense)

TL;DR

Head of Finance (Defense/Maritime Autonomy): Building and leading the finance function from the ground up for a maritime sensing systems company with an accent on financial strategy, GAAP compliance, and capital management. Focus on establishing scalable financial systems, managing investor relations, and providing numeric guidance for major strategic decisions.

Location: In office in Torrance, CA. Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible for export license authorizations (ITAR/EAR).

What you will do

• Develop and implement the overall financial strategy, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning.
• Lead the preparation of accurate, GAAP-compliant financial statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
• Own the end-to-end budgeting process and translate financial data into actionable recommendations for senior leadership.
• Manage relationships with external auditors and ensure seamless year-end audits.
• Support fundraising efforts by building financial models, presentations, and due diligence materials for investors.
• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, month-end close, and tax compliance.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field.
• 10-15+ years of experience in finance or accounting.
• At least 3 years in a leadership role, ideally within a startup or high-growth environment.
• Expertise in financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management.
• Deep knowledge of financial accounting, compliance, and reporting standards.
• Must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or eligible for authorizations under EAR and ITAR.

Nice to have

• MBA or CPA certification.
• Proven experience with venture capital, fundraising, and investor relations.
• Track record of building financial systems and processes from scratch.
• Experience in the aerospace, technology, or manufacturing industries.
