What you will do

• Define and manage system-level requirements, architecture, and performance specifications.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive system error budgets across optical, electronic, electrical, and thermal domains.
• Lead root-cause analysis and resolution of performance issues in sensor and signal-processing subsystems.
• Collaborate with optical, electrical, software, and algorithm teams to optimize overall system performance.
• Conduct trade studies to balance performance, cost, reliability, and manufacturability.
• Support system integration, verification, validation, and product release activities.

Requirements

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or Systems Engineering.
• 5+ years of experience in complex system development, preferably in semiconductor equipment, aerospace, or medical devices.
• Strong understanding of optical systems, imaging, photonics, and electronic signal acquisition.
• Proven expertise in system performance analysis and error budgeting.
• Experience translating customer requirements into technical system specifications.
• Must be based in or be able to work from Milpitas, CA.

Nice to have

• Experience with wafer metrology, machine vision, or laser-based instrumentation.
• Knowledge of FPGA-based systems, real-time control, or EMI/EMC principles.
• Proficiency with MATLAB, Python, Zemax, Code V, SPICE, or LabVIEW.
• Experience using AI-assisted engineering tools such as GitHub Copilot or ChatGPT.
