TL;DR
Optical Systems Engineer (Semiconductor): Designing, assembling, testing, and debugging precision optical and optomechanical systems for semiconductor lithography, metrology, and motion applications with an accent on rapid prototyping, optical modeling, and precision alignment. Focus on integrating motion stages and metrology equipment, analyzing aberrations and tolerances, and developing systems for advanced chip manufacturing.

Location: Austin, TX; on-site

Salary: $130,000–$200,000 annually, plus equity

hirify.global is an early-stage hardware startup that designs and builds semiconductor manufacturing hardware, software, fabs, tools, and components.

What you will do

  • Design, prototype, assemble, align, test, and debug precision optical and optomechanical systems.
  • Build new systems and integrate off-the-shelf motion stages and metrology equipment.
  • Perform optical performance modeling, first-order layout, aberration analysis, tolerance analysis, Monte Carlo yield prediction, and stray light analysis.
  • Source components and materials from suppliers, including custom optics fabrication.
  • Design lens mounting components and methods.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Optical Engineering, Optical Sciences, Physics, or Mechanical Engineering with demonstrated optical design work.
  • At least 3 years of industry experience designing and implementing optical systems.
  • Working fluency in optical design and analysis, including sequential and non-sequential ray tracing.
  • Familiarity with Zemax or similar optical simulation tools.
  • Hands-on optical alignment and testing experience, including interferometric wavefront error measurement and troubleshooting.
  • Mechanical 3D CAD experience.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of precision machine design, including kinematic couplings, flexures, error budgeting, structural loops, and tolerance analysis.
  • Experience modeling structural, thermal, and optical performance degradation.
  • Experience with UV or DUV wavelengths and related material, coating, and contamination constraints.
  • Early-stage startup experience.
  • Familiarity with firmware, controls, or electrical engineering.
