Systems Engineer IV (Optical Lithography)

Location: Santa Clara, California, United States; travel up to 10% of the time; relocation eligible.

Salary: $161,000–$221,000 per year

What you will do

• Design, integrate, test, and optimize optical subsystems and assemblies for high-performance optical lithography systems used in advanced packaging.
• Lead subsystem and optical assembly projects, coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams, suppliers, manufacturing, and customer-site teams.
• Develop system requirements, specifications, error budgets, test plans, experiments, diagnostics, and calibrations.
• Develop and maintain optical metrology hardware and software for automated measurement of key performance metrics.
• Troubleshoot system-level issues, perform root-cause analysis, and support manufacturing, installation, qualification, production, and field-return investigations.
• Prepare and present technical reports with findings and recommended solutions.

Requirements

• MS or PhD in Optics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with 4–10 years of experience.
• Hands-on experience designing, assembling, calibrating, and using complex optomechanical instrumentation or systems with light sources, optical sensors, lenses, and filters.
• Experience designing and executing test plans, concept studies, feasibility studies, and design-of-experiments activities.
• Strong troubleshooting, data analysis, data visualization, and system or subsystem software debugging skills.
• Strong programming or scripting experience with tools such as MATLAB or Python.
• Ability to collaborate across disciplines and manage multiple projects in parallel.

Nice to have

• Experience with image processing, software automation, optical metrology development, and qualification.
• Experience using Claude Code or other AI tools.
• Experience supporting manufacturing and service organizations through training, documentation, and troubleshooting.
