Senior Opto-Mechanical Engineer (Laser Systems)

Location: Milpitas, California, United States; eligible to work in the United States

Salary: $111,850–$186,400 per year, plus discretionary annual bonus

What you will do

• Lead and support the design, integration, testing, and qualification of laser products and subsystems.
• Translate product requirements into opto-mechanical assembly designs that balance performance, cost, reliability, and manufacturability.
• Define tooling and test strategies, build system prototypes, measure optical and opto-electronic parameters, and evaluate results.
• Create qualification reports, engineering documentation, Engineering Change Orders, and production-transfer materials.
• Investigate product, manufacturing, and field failures using structured root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
• Provide engineering support to manufacturing and operations teams and collaborate with optical and precision-mechanical component vendors.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Photonics, or a related discipline with 5+ years of industry experience, or a master’s degree with 3+ years of experience.
• Expertise in opto-mechanical design and analysis and proficiency with SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM.
• Hands-on experience testing, assembling, aligning, integrating, or manufacturing advanced laser or optical systems.
• Experience with optical measurement and characterization instrumentation and techniques.
• Strong system-level troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills, including 8D, 5-Why, and Ishikawa methodologies.
• Must be eligible to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available.

Nice to have

• Industrial laser product development and transfer to manufacturing.
• Knowledge of materials, fabrication methods, particle and contamination control, and GD&T.
• Experience with thermal, structural, or flow analysis using FEA in SolidWorks or Ansys.
• Familiarity with Gaussian beam propagation and ray-tracing tools such as ZEMAX or FRED.
• Experience with automated measurement and control methods using Python.
