What you will do
- Lead initiatives within search to deliver an industry-leading search engine with top-tier speed and relevance.
- Design and implement new search features and enhancements, and resolve challenging bugs (including algorithm/data-structure work and low-level performance work).
- Work with a globally distributed team on search vector search capabilities.
- Drive improvements in search relevance by identifying and implementing changes based on expertise and investigation.
- Collaborate with open-source community members on issues and pull requests, including triage and direct handling.
- Write idiomatic modern Java and improve code clarity and maintainability.
Requirements
- Professional experience with search or vector databases, including using HNSW, IVF, or similar algorithms/libraries at scale.
- Strong core Java skills, including standard library data structures and concurrency constructs (e.g., lambdas).
- Experience with search and/or other data storage technologies (e.g., Solr, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Cassandra) and understanding of how they work.
- Proven ability to use AI to accelerate development, debug complex systems, and optimize code while owning outcomes.
- Ability to take projects end-to-end, including technical design and collaboration with other engineers.
- Comfort working asynchronously and driving decisions/results in a distributed team.

- Experience building with search and contributing to open-source projects.
- Familiarity with source control workflows and continuous integration practices.
- Experience designing and leading cross-functional initiatives.
