Principal Physical Substation Engineer (Utilities)

Location: Remote or local/in-office in Lakewood, Colorado. Applicants must be authorized to work full-time in the United States. Some field work and 15–25% travel may be required.

Salary: $130,000–$200,000 per year. The range is based on the Denver, Colorado labor market.

What you will do

• Provide expert design oversight, analysis, and technical direction for multidisciplinary substation projects.
• Perform final QA/QC reviews of physical substation design packages, including layouts, elevations, conduit and trench plans, illumination, bus and connection details, lightning protection, bills of materials, and fence plans.
• Review engineering calculations, including bus and conductor sizing, and evaluate equipment specifications and vendor compliance.
• Assess the constructability, operability, and maintainability of complex substation designs.
• Serve as a subject-matter expert and provide tailored technical guidance to project teams and clients.
• Mentor engineers and designers, support project strategy, and improve engineering processes, tools, and standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in civil, electrical, mechanical engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution.
• 7+ years of direct substation engineering experience.
• Professional Engineering license or ability to obtain one within one year.
• Knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, ANSI, and applicable county, city, and state regulations.
• Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and people skills.
• Current authorization to work full-time in the United States is required.
