Senior Substation Project Engineer, Reliability

Location: Hybrid role based in Dublin, California, with the assigned work location within the PG&E Service Territory

Annual salary: $153,828–$197,628

What you will do

• Manage complex substation projects, engineering analyses, studies, and conceptual designs.
• Lead the transition of projects from development and testing into operational service.
• Evaluate substation configurations for reliability risks, including single points of failure and bus design vulnerabilities.
• Recommend design and configuration improvements to reduce outage exposure and improve grid resilience.
• Partner with engineering, operations, testing, and field teams to interpret diagnostic results and implement reliability-driven changes.
• Provide technical direction, coaching, and mentorship to engineers and technical teams, and support contractor bid evaluations and specifications.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited US program or equivalent international qualification.
• At least 8 years of experience in electrical power systems engineering and design.
• Experience solving complex engineering problems independently and developing non-standard technical solutions when needed.
• Ability to collaborate with contractors, vendors, public agencies, project teams, and company management.

Nice to have

• Experience with large-scale, large-budget electric substation projects.
• Substation engineering experience.
• Project management skills.
• Active California Professional Engineer license.
