Director of Insurance Accounting

Location: Springfield, Massachusetts or Boston, Massachusetts

Salary: $121,800–$159,800 annually

What you will do

• Lead the Institutional Solutions Controllership team and develop accounting professionals.
• Oversee accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for complex insurance accounting activities.
• Analyze financial results, identify trends and drivers, and present insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
• Partner with Treasury, Investment Accounting, Reinsurance Accounting, Reporting, Strategic Business Partners, and Corporate Actuarial teams.
• Build and maintain internal controls, monitor outsourced accounting activities, and ensure compliance with policies and regulatory requirements.
• Lead accounting research, policy implementation, new product readiness, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.
• 8+ years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting or a large, complex corporate environment.
• 3+ years of insurance accounting experience, including general ledger processing and month-end close activities.
• 3+ years of experience applying U.S. GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
• 3+ years of experience analyzing accounting data and communicating financial insights to stakeholders.
• 2+ years of experience coaching or developing accountants and external consultants as a manager or project/team lead.

Nice to have

• CPA, master’s degree, MBA, or equivalent qualification.
• NAIC statutory accounting experience and experience with Institutional Solutions, including Pension Risk Transfer, Institutional Insurance, or Funding Agreements.
• Experience designing, executing, and documenting internal controls and remediating control issues.
• Experience leading complex projects, finance transformation initiatives, and operational efficiency improvements.
• Strong communication, research, problem-solving, and presentation skills.
