Principal Accountant-Financial Reporting (Life Insurance)

Location: Minneapolis, Minnesota, United States; employees work in the office at least four days per week and may work from home one day per week.

Base salary: $87,400–$120,200 per year, with potential variable compensation and benefits.

What you will do

• Prepare life insurance statutory annual and quarterly financial statements and related reports for state regulators and the NAIC.
• Provide qualitative analysis for regulatory and legal-entity reporting.
• Coordinate with internal and external partners on complex analyses, reports, accounting transactions, and reporting changes.
• Maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting.
• Communicate with external auditors, examiners, and regulators and respond to their requests.
• Assist with state and insurance company filings and ad hoc projects.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field.
• At least five years of professional experience, ideally involving regulatory filings.
• Ability to lead through change and manage detailed work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, strategic thinking, adaptability, and written and oral communication skills.
• Valid U.S. work authorization that does not now or in the future require visa sponsorship.

Nice to have

• CPA license.
• Life insurance statutory reporting experience.
• Knowledge of NAIC statutory accounting and reporting guidance.
• Proficiency with Workday General Ledger.
• Strong decision-making and prioritization skills focused on business impact and best practices.
