Accountant III (Insurance)

Location: Plano, Texas or Madison, Wisconsin; 2 days in the office and 3 days remote

Salary: $66,500–$92,000 per year, depending on experience, skills, location, and other relevant factors.

What you will do

• Prepare monthly general ledger entries for premiums, claims, reserves, reinsurance, commissions, and third-party settlements.
• Process agent and vendor payments, settlement payments, bank deposits, account reconciliations, and related journal entries.
• Investigate reconciling items with internal and external partners and track accounting, payment, reporting, and project issues through resolution.
• Prepare monthly financial reports, quarterly and annual statutory financial statements, supporting schedules, and state filing materials.
• Analyze reinsurance data, prepare Excel workbooks, support audits and regulators, and compile premium data for tax partners.
• Support software conversions, data validation and testing, cross-training, and process improvement or automation initiatives.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 3–5 years of relevant accounting or financial reporting experience.
• Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, data management, and financial controls.
• Experience with complex journal entries, reconciliations, and financial analysis.
• Proficiency with general ledger, reconciliation, and financial reporting systems, plus strong Excel skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication, and process improvement skills.

Nice to have

• Insurance accounting or statutory reporting experience.
• Experience with Workday and BlackLine.
