Principal Software Engineer (Data Platform)

Location: Remote, United States. The role is not eligible for hiring in San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, or surrounding areas. Occasional travel for project or team meetings may be required.

Salary: $188,240–$235,300 annually for candidates based in Colorado.

What you will do

• Lead the design and development of scalable, reliable data infrastructure.
• Architect data systems, storage solutions, and processing frameworks using cloud and modern data technologies.
• Define technical vision and strategy for large-scale data platforms.
• Drive research, innovation, data quality, security, and operational excellence.
• Mentor engineers and collaborate with cross-functional teams on scalable technical solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 10+ years of software development experience, including at least 5 years in technical leadership.
• Experience architecting large-scale data platforms using AWS and deploying with Kubernetes, Terraform, and Helm.
• Expertise in ClickHouse, Kafka, Spark, distributed systems, and big data partitioning.
• Proficiency in Python, Java, Bash, or Go, with strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Experience with high availability, observability, incident response, mentoring, and organization-wide technical influence.

Nice to have

• Experience integrating authorization and authentication systems.
• Networking and network security knowledge.
• Deep experience architecting, tuning, and operating ClickHouse at scale.
