Engineering Manager, Data Platform

Location: Remote - US

Pay: $191,800–$263,670 in Zone 1; $172,600–$237,270 in Zone 2; $163,000–$224,070 in Zone 3, plus a 10% bonus target.

What you will do

• Lead and develop a team of backend engineers through coaching, feedback, career growth, and technical mentorship.
• Own the delivery, correctness, reliability, and resilience of production data ingestion endpoints, pipelines, and data stores.
• Partner with Product Management and engineering teams to scope, estimate, sequence, and prioritize roadmap work.
• Communicate Data Platform priorities and progress to engineering leadership, partner teams, and customers.
• Drive operational excellence across observability, cost management, incident response, reliability, and on-call health.
• Establish collaborative team norms and participate in hiring.

Requirements

• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years managing backend or infrastructure engineers.
• Experience owning high-throughput, reliability-critical systems such as event ingestion, streaming or batch pipelines, or large analytical data stores.
• Strong distributed-systems fundamentals and sound judgment in technical tradeoffs.
• Experience partnering with Product Management to turn business goals into engineering plans and reliable estimates.
• Experience coaching engineers, managing performance, planning career growth, and leading production incident response.
• Experience with Go or Python; familiarity with Kinesis or Kafka, ClickHouse, Airflow, Athena or Iceberg, Elasticsearch, and Terraform is a plus.
