Principal Data Engineer (AWS)

Location: Remote nationwide within the United States; primary location Greenwood Village, Colorado. Applicants must be authorized to work for any U.S. employer.

Base salary: $151,800–$220,050 per year, with eligibility for a bonus program.

What you will do

• Design, build, and optimize scalable data services, streaming solutions, pipelines, platforms, and operational data systems.
• Implement complex AWS-based data platforms and distributed data engineering solutions through hands-on development.
• Define data engineering standards, reusable frameworks, governance, security, quality, and data management practices.
• Lead enterprise-scale, cross-functional data initiatives and modernization programs.
• Partner with senior leadership, architects, product teams, and engineering teams on data strategy and roadmaps.
• Mentor senior engineers and technical leaders while driving reliability, scalability, performance, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent training and experience.
• 10+ years of data engineering experience.
• Certified AWS Engineer or equivalent AWS certification.
• Expert proficiency in Python, Spark, SQL, modern data architectures, AWS, and distributed data systems.
• Hands-on experience with streaming and batch data integration, data modeling, ETL/ELT, operational data stores, Terraform, governance, security, and data quality.
• Strong leadership, mentoring, communication, and organizational influence skills, including the ability to advise executive stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Experience with Snowflake.
• Data engineering, cloud data, or advanced AWS data services certifications.
• Experience building reusable data services, frameworks, or platform capabilities for multiple engineering teams.
• Experience modernizing legacy data platforms into cloud-native data ecosystems.
