Location: Ideally based in Columbia, Maryland; remote positions may be considered for exceptional candidates. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
Salary: $90,000–$120,000

What you will do
- Develop and lead project plans for the creation and delivery of Technical Manuals for air traffic control and other systems.
- Author and maintain system maintenance and operation manuals, illustrated parts breakdowns, and troubleshooting guides.
- Create diagrams, workflows, and illustrations to enable easy-to-follow steps for system users and maintainers.
- Lead and mentor a team of technical writers, establishing standards and balancing workload.
- Collaborate with international departments, including Service Operations, Production, and Engineering, to manage project risks and timelines.
- Manage documentation baselines, version control, and track engineering changes for current releases.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field.
- 10+ years of technical writing experience, including project management.
- Direct experience with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) technical manual requirements.
- Technical knowledge of IP Networking systems or Voice Communication Systems (VoIP experience is a plus).
- Proficiency in information structures such as HTML, XML, and SGML.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident capable of obtaining a suitability determination via background investigation.
Nice to have
- Previous experience leading a small team.
- Familiarity with the ASD S1000D documentation specification.
- Experience with editorial tools such as EAGLE or Cosima.
