Claims Examiner (Insurance)

Location: Richmond, VA, United States. US work authorization is required. Visa sponsorship is not available.

Salary: $62,000–$85,800 annually, plus a 12% incentive.

What you will do

• Investigate, evaluate, negotiate, and settle low to moderate exposure claims.
• Review policies and supporting documents, confirm coverage, and communicate coverage positions.
• Analyze liability, damages, and insured exposure while conducting or coordinating loss investigations.
• Draft coverage position letters, prepare reports, and set reserves or recommend reserve changes.
• Manage claim diaries, service-level agreements, claimant communications, and timely claim closure.
• Identify subrogation opportunities and potential fraud, make referrals, and provide customer service.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
• At least two years of claims handling experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must have or be eligible to obtain a claims adjuster license.
• Completion of basic insurance courses or an industry designation such as INS, IEA, AIC, ARM, SCLA, or CPCU.
• Strong written and oral communication, analytical, problem-solving, organization, and time-management skills.
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office products and the ability to work in a team environment.

Nice to have

• Advanced or focused technical degree.
• Knowledge of the insurance industry or claims handling.
• Successful completion of two years as an Associate Claims Specialist.
