Staff Software Engineer (Java/Kotlin)

Location: Barcelona, Spain; remote work is available from anywhere where hirify.global operates.

What you will do

• Define the architectural direction, patterns, standards, and trade-offs for modernizing the Supply domain.
• Design and implement legacy-displacement patterns to move domains out of the monolith with zero downtime.
• Build new services and support the transition from Go to Java, Kotlin, and Spring.
• Mentor senior and mid-level engineers through design reviews and technical guidance.
• Collaborate with product managers to shape requirements and balance technical debt with new product value.
• Improve system reliability through Grafana, tracing, testing, and AI-assisted refactoring and development workflows.

Requirements

• Significant backend engineering experience, typically 10+ years, with expertise in performance-sensitive, production-critical systems.
• Deep backend experience and the ability to work across multiple programming languages and codebases.
• Experience with event-driven systems, monolith decomposition, and system migrations.
• Strong understanding of unit, integration, and end-to-end testing practices.
• Experience with observability, system performance, and reliability engineering.
• Ability to collaborate asynchronously across time zones and mentor other engineers.

Nice to have

• Practical experience with React.
• Experience using agentic programming tools such as Claude Code.
