Software Engineer - Assistant Vice President (Scala/Fintech): Building scalable APIs and key backend platform components for a new international financial audience with an accent on Scala, ZIO, Akka, Postgres, Kinesis, and AWS. Focus on designing client solutions, guiding technology decisions, mentoring engineers, and solving large-scale API challenges in collaboration with Product, Sales, and clients.
Location: Lisbon, Portugal; office-based four days per week with remote work available on Fridays

What you will do
- Develop key components of the platform and scalable backend services.
- Serve as the technical architect for new client projects and work directly with clients.
- Build APIs using Scala, Akka, Postgres, Kinesis, and other open-source technologies.
- Coordinate work, guide technology decisions, and mentor software engineers.
- Collaborate with Product Management and Sales to define requirements and drive new initiatives.
- Review work in progress and address issues identified through manual testing.
Requirements
- Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in a similar software engineering role using a modern programming language.
- Leadership or mentorship experience.
- Experience with REST APIs, AWS, and APIs for large-scale applications.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience working directly with clients.
- Curiosity about financial products and markets, together with a self-directed and creative problem-solving approach.
