Senior Server-Side Engineer (Backend)

Location: 100% remote within the United States

Salary: $100,000–$150,000 annually

What you will do

• Design, build, and operate foundational backend platforms and shared services.
• Develop request-routing, traffic-management, data fan-out, and caching capabilities.
• Build asynchronous job execution and durable event-processing systems.
• Design distributed systems that handle very high traffic volumes with predictable latency.
• Lead technical projects and collaborate with multiple engineering teams.
• Document systems and mentor other engineers.

Requirements

• 6+ years of backend, platform, or software engineering experience.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong experience designing distributed systems and internal platforms.
• Proficiency in Java, Go, Scala, Rust, or C++.
• Hands-on experience with Kafka, Pulsar, NATS, or other event-driven technologies.
• Knowledge of relational, NoSQL, and search databases, plus strong communication and mentoring skills.

Nice to have

• Experience with Kubernetes and platform engineering.
• Contributions to open-source infrastructure projects.
• Knowledge of service mesh, workflow orchestration, platform APIs, API versioning, and backward compatibility.
• Technical blogging, conference speaking, or other community contributions.
