What you will do

• Design and implement control systems using PLC and SCADA technologies to optimize laboratory workflows and scalability.
• Integrate advanced robotics and 3rd party equipment using custom wrappers and structured text programming.
• Develop safety systems and comprehensive engineering documentation, including P&ID diagrams and wiring schematics.
• Lead complex automation projects, managing vendors and ensuring on-time, on-budget delivery.
• Collaborate with software teams to integrate control systems with broader IT/OT factory infrastructure.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers to foster innovation.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience in designing complex control systems for automated laboratory environments.
• Extensive knowledge of PLCs, HMI, SCADA, and industrial networking in OT deployments (routing, VPNs, security groups).
• Proficiency in creating detailed engineering documents using AutoCAD, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar tools.
• Proven experience with robotics integration and programming using structured text.
• Must be based in or able to work onsite in Cambridge, MA, USA.

Nice to have

• Ignition Gold Certification and HMI design expertise.
• Programming experience in TwinCAT, Python, or C++.
• Experience with communication protocols such as OPC-UA, MQTT, and REST APIs.
• Knowledge of safety system design and classification (SIL or PL).
• Ability to troubleshoot traffic flows between OT networks and AWS cloud instances.
