TL;DR

Manufacturing Engineer (Hardware): Turning prototype-level hardware into reliably built, documented, and deployed systems with an accent on build management, lab/shop floor operations, and quality/supplier execution. Focus on scaling repeatable production, controlling documentation and BOM/revisions, and resolving build/test/calibration issues to support field deployment in often harsh environments.

Location: Must be legally authorized to work in one of the following countries: United States, Canada, Australia, South Africa, United Kingdom, Zambia, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Namibia, Finland, Sweden, or Botswana. Able to work in an office in Berkeley on a daily basis; travel up to 5–10%. For Zambian positions: full-time contract. Location: Lusaka, Zambia.

Salary: $110,000–$180,000 base salary range (plus equity and benefits including 401k matching).

Company

hirify.global builds AI models for mineral exploration and deploys them alongside novel sensors to guide exploration and mine development programs.

What you will do

  • Plan and manage hardware builds from prototype through low-volume production, coordinating schedules, kitting, and vendor activity.
  • Own lab and shop floor operations (layout, equipment/tooling/consumables, safety), including calibration and maintenance schedules.
  • Run receiving and quality processes (inspection/verification vs POs, incoming and in-process checks, nonconformance tracking, returns/rework).
  • Source components and services by identifying, qualifying, and developing vendors; manage ordering and inventory to keep parts available.
  • Create and maintain build/deployment documentation with documentation control (revision/BOM/change management) so future units can be built identically.
  • Provide DFX feedback and resolve technical issues during fabrication, build, assembly, and test; support field deployment documentation and bottleneck resolution.

Requirements

  • Degree in mechanical, manufacturing, or industrial engineering (or equivalent education/experience).
  • 3–5 years in manufacturing, production, or hardware build engineering, ideally in prototype-to-low-volume environments.
  • Hands-on experience managing hardware builds and shop/lab environments.
  • Experience with sourcing/vendor development and inventory/materials management.
  • Working knowledge of BOM management, revision control, and documentation control practices.
  • Ability to work in an office in Berkeley on a daily basis; travel up to 5–10%.

Nice to have

  • Experience with New Product Introduction (NPI) in a hardware startup.
  • Experience implementing/administering an MRP/PLM system.
  • Experience with build/test/calibration of camera and/or sensing systems; familiarity with quality management systems and inspection processes.
  • Experience managing overseas vendors and international logistics; machining/fabrication/3D printing experience.
  • Familiarity with GD&T and reading engineering drawings.

Culture & Benefits

  • Remote-first workplace; candidates must be legally authorized to work in specified countries.
  • Full-time exempt role includes equity and benefits, including 401k matching.
  • Equal opportunity workplace with commitment to equal employment opportunities.
  • For Zambian positions, role is a full-time contract.
