Senior Backend Ground Software Engineer (Lunar Permanence)

Salary: $181,626–$254,275 per year for Colorado applicants. Washington applicants: $197,529–$276,539 per year.

What you will do

• Design, implement, test, verify, and deploy mission operations and safety-critical ground software for lunar spaceflight.
• Develop software for mission activity planning, telemetry processing and display, spacecraft health monitoring, fault detection, and operator training.
• Collaborate with space vehicle, mission-control infrastructure, operations, and ground subsystem engineers to define requirements, architectures, and designs.
• Lead system verification and qualification, including software integration, Software-in-the-Loop and Hardware-in-the-Loop simulation, and certification releases.
• Support pre-flight testing, mission validation exercises, spacecraft integration, flight operations, maintenance, and software improvements.
• Produce architecture, design, verification, user, and training documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in software engineering, engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of software development experience, including full lifecycle engineering from design and implementation through verification, integration, and release.
• Professional experience with Python and/or Rust, scalable software architecture, build automation, continuous integration, configuration management, verification, and deployment.
• Experience with Linux and basic Unix system administration, plus the ability to collaborate with frontend developers using React-based frameworks.
• Strong written and verbal communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, refugee, or asylee due to export control requirements.

Nice to have

• Experience developing software for aerospace, aviation, nuclear power, or other critical systems.
• Infrastructure-as-code, services-as-code, cloud technologies, CCSDS communications protocols, cybersecurity, or NPR 7150.2x compliance experience.
• Experience with fault-tolerant design, human error assessment and prevention, spacecraft subsystems, and associated software.
