Principal Project Engineer - Gas Engine Power Generation

Location: Remote in the United States; willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30%.

What you will do

• Lead electrical design integration for utility-scale and behind-the-meter power projects, covering HV/MV substations and the electrical balance of plant.
• Establish design bases, scope boundaries, interface matrices, deliverable registers, schedules, and technical risk registers across owners, EPC contractors, utilities, consultants, and suppliers.
• Review electrical design packages, equipment specifications, studies, drawings, calculations, test plans, technical submittals, and vendor documentation.
• Coordinate electrical interfaces with natural-gas engine-generator OEMs, including alternators, grounding, excitation, governors, synchronization, protection, starting systems, auxiliaries, black-start, islanding, and CHP interfaces.
• Manage utility interconnection requirements and support procurement, supplier selection, construction engineering, RFIs, field changes, and site walkdowns.
• Plan and support substation energization, generator synchronization, commissioning, protection and control testing, punch-list closure, and project turnover.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical or power system engineering, or equivalent experience.
• At least 7 years of experience leading project design, preferably for large generator power stations and substations.
• Direct experience with HV/MV substation design.
• Working knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NFPA 70/NEC, NESC, NETA, OSHA, and utility standards.
• Familiarity with permitting processes involving local authorities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30% and work effectively in fast-paced, rapid-growth environments.
• Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

Nice to have

• Direct experience with natural-gas reciprocating-engine power plants, CHP facilities, or distributed generation.
• PE certification or equivalent.
