Principal Project Engineer (Substations)

What you will do

• Establish electrical design basis, scope boundaries, and technical risk registers while coordinating across EPC contractors and utilities.
• Review complex electrical design packages including single-line diagrams, cable schedules, and grounding/lightning-protection designs.
• Technically evaluate specifications for major equipment such as transformers, switchgear, protection relays, and UPS systems.
• Coordinate electrical interfaces with natural-gas engine-generator OEMs and ensure alignment with plant auxiliary requirements.
• Manage utility interconnection requirements, including point-of-interconnection design, revenue metering, and relay settings.
• Provide construction engineering support, respond to RFIs, and verify site installations conform to design and quality plans.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical or power system engineering.
• 7+ years of experience leading project design for large generator power stations and substations.
• Direct experience in HV/MV substation design.
• Working knowledge of IEEE, ANSI, NFPA 70/NEC, NESC, NETA, and OSHA standards.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States and pass a pre-employment background check.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally up to 30%.

Nice to have

• Direct experience with natural-gas reciprocating-engine power plants, CHP facilities, or distributed generation.
• PE certification or equivalent.
• Familiarity with local permitting processes.
