Sr. Counsel, Intellectual Property (AI): Legal advisory and management of intellectual property matters for a new initiative focused on interactive entertainment and AI with an accent on technology transactions, generative AI content production, and IP enforcement. Focus on drafting complex IP agreements, developing AI guidelines, and managing content moderation policies for user-generated content.

Location: Hybrid (Universal City, CA) - must be in office a minimum of four days per week

Salary: $165,000 – $200,000 per year

What you will do

• Serve as the primary legal advisor for IP matters for a new innovative business initiative.
• Draft and negotiate IP and technology transactions involving game engines, creator tools, and generative AI tools.
• Develop guidelines for the creation and use of generative AI content and implement trade secret protection practices.
• Manage IP and technology diligence for acquisitions, investments, and strategic partnerships.
• Establish guidelines for content moderation and user-generated content policies, addressing copyright, trademark, and DMCA.
• Advise on open-source software policies and manage inbound licensing of third-party IP.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree and membership in the California State Bar (or eligibility to register as in-house counsel in CA).
• Approximately 7+ years of experience in IP and technology transactions, specifically within video games or interactive entertainment.
• Deep understanding of generative AI, content clearance, copyrights, patents, trademarks, and rights of publicity.
• Proven ability to operate effectively across a large organization and influence outcomes through collaboration.
• Excellent executive presence and ability to communicate practical legal advice to senior business and engineering leaders.

Nice to have

• Prior in-house legal experience at a video game publisher, developer, or interactive media company.
