Engineering Group Leader (Basic Software Development)

Location: Milford, Michigan, United States; hybrid work with reporting to the specific location at least three times a week. Relocation benefits are available under company policy.

What you will do

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of basic software engineers while setting priorities, goals, and decision criteria.
• Own delivery strategy and execution for GM Basic Software areas across the MSP portfolio and ECU roadmaps.
• Define reusable platform solutions across HWIO, MCAL, RTOS, communications, diagnostics, boot and programming, RTE, safety, cybersecurity, and system services.
• Coordinate with portfolio, architecture, hardware, integration, validation, application, supplier, and partner teams.
• Establish quality gates, verification practices, release readiness criteria, and root-cause resolution processes.
• Improve automation, standardization, configuration, release, and lifecycle management workflows.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• Typically 8+ years of experience in automotive or embedded software development, preferably in platform, infrastructure, or basic software.
• Experience with AUTOSAR-based systems and foundational ECU software, including drivers, communication stacks, diagnostics, boot/programming, memory, safety, cybersecurity, or system services.
• Prior people leadership, technical leadership, or equivalent leadership of cross-functional software efforts.
• Strong understanding of embedded software architecture, platform layering, hardware abstraction, and reusable software lifecycle management.
• Proficiency in at least one systems-level programming language such as C or C++, plus familiarity with scripting and automation.

Nice to have

• Master’s degree in a relevant engineering or computer science field.
• Experience as an Engineering Group Leader, SWIM, or equivalent line manager.
• Experience with software-defined vehicle platforms or large-scale software environments.
• Hands-on experience across AUTOSAR BSW domains and cross-portfolio platform delivery.
• Experience driving automation, standardization, and engineering efficiency improvements.
