What you will do

• Contribute to research and innovation projects in the field of coherent optical communications.
• Develop, evaluate, and test transceiver technologies for optical intersatellite and ground-to-space links.
• Analyze the impact of weather, atmosphere, and satellite movements on transmission performance.
• Perform laboratory experiments and field trials on optical systems and subsystem levels.
• Complement experimental results with simulations using Python and MATLAB.
• Prepare technical reports and present results in meetings, publications, and conferences.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, Communications Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of optical communication systems and digital communications.
• Programming skills in Python, MATLAB, C++, or similar languages.
• Experience with laboratory measurements and communication test equipment.
• English: Proficiency in written and spoken English required.
• Location: Must be based in or able to work from Munich, Germany.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with coherent optical transmission, advanced modulation formats, FEC, and DSP algorithms.
• Experience with high-speed oscilloscopes, optical spectrum analyzers, or optical power meters.
• Knowledge of free-space optical communications, satellite, and mobile communications.
• Experience with agentic AI for software development, report generation, and automation.
