What you will do

• Derive and maintain technical payload requirements and performance budgets.
• Perform design trade-offs and manage supplier reviews to ensure project constraints are met.
• Conduct payload functional analysis, performance testing, and documentation for flight certification.
• Collaborate with procurement and AIT teams to oversee supplier performance and integration activities.
• Support operational concept definition and mission-level performance assessments.
• Contribute to the development of internal test and system engineering software.

Requirements

• Degree in engineering, physics, or a related scientific discipline.
• 5+ years of proven experience in optical payload design for space applications, ideally with infrared instruments.
• Must be eligible for security clearance or legal authorisation restricted to NATO member state nationals.
• Strong interpersonal skills for managing supplier and internal team relationships.
• Familiarity with Python or willingness to learn.
• Strong written and spoken English skills.

Nice to have

• Optical design experience using Zemax.
• Optical Assembly, Integration, and Testing (AIT) experience.
• Opto-mechanical design experience.
