What you will do

• Own the end-to-end mechanical architecture of ion beam deposition and etch systems, including vacuum vessels and robotics interfaces.
• Lead structural and thermal FEA, heat transfer modeling, and fluid dynamics simulations to validate concepts.
• Drive prototype development from design through test, utilizing DOE plans and root-cause analysis.
• Conduct design reviews and present technical rationale to cross-functional peers and external customers.
• Collaborate with supply chain and manufacturing for vendor qualification and on-site assembly troubleshooting.
• Mentor junior engineers and define mechanical specifications based on customer requirements and SEMI safety standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (8+ years exp) or Master's degree (6+ years exp).
• Proficiency with 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Inventor, or Creo) and 2D drafting (AutoCAD).
• Proven experience in structural and thermal FEA applied to production-bound hardware.
• Hands-on experience building and troubleshooting prototype mechanical hardware in lab or factory environments.
• Deep experience designing capital equipment for the semiconductor industry.
• Must be based in or able to work onsite in Plainview, NY.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with ion beam technology, vacuum physics, or thin-film deposition processes.
• Knowledge of automation, robotics, industrial controls, and motor selection.
• Experience with PLM systems like SAP and formal ECO documentation workflows.
