Safety Operations Manager (Transportation Safety)

Location: Rochester, MN, United States; field-based work including regular ride-alongs and in-person training.

Salary: $75,000–$85,000 per year.

What you will do

• Act as the primary safety lead by conducting post-incident reviews, safety audits, ride-alongs, and service-quality observations.
• Monitor safety data, identify opportunities for proactive coaching and process improvement, and support reporting between field teams and central operations.
• Support and occasionally act as the Designated Employer Representative for DOT compliance, including recordkeeping and follow-up on testing and incidents.
• Lead accident and incident root cause analyses and develop corrective action plans.
• Design, deliver, and improve onboarding, remedial, and refresher driver training focused on safety, defensive driving, passenger assistance, de-escalation, CPR/First Aid, and emergency procedures.
• Evaluate driver performance, maintain certifications and compliance records, support training schedules, and foster safety, accountability, and support across markets.

Requirements

• Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with passenger endorsement.
• 3+ years of experience in driver training, operations management, or field supervision, preferably in fixed-route and paratransit settings.
• Ability to coach, motivate, and manage performance among diverse driver teams.
• Strong understanding of safety protocols, ADA requirements, and DOT regulations.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to train and inspire adult learners.
• Comfort balancing field work with administrative and compliance tasks.
• Proficiency with digital tools such as LMS platforms, dashboards, and spreadsheets.
