Director, Legal

Location: Based in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, with consideration for other listed United States locations; hybrid working environment with in-office and/or in-person expectations.

Salary: $227,800–$338,800 USD annually, with the final offer determined by location, qualifications, experience, and education.

What you will do

• Partner with product teams throughout conception, design, MVP definition, roadmap planning, commercial release, support, and end-of-life.
• Advise Product Management and business stakeholders on open source, privacy by design, data inventory and flow, intellectual property, and product security.
• Structure, draft, and negotiate product-specific terms, SDK and API licenses, terms of use, product policies, and commercial templates.
• Support technology transactions including partner agreements, OEM relationships, inbound licenses, joint development, strategic alliances, SaaS, acquisitions, and hosted services.
• Develop legal frameworks for product deprecation, obsolescence, recalls, epidemic failures, and the flow of terms between licensors, vendors, and customers.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Finance, Sales, Privacy, IP, and other legal teams on data rights, financial issues, patent opportunities, approvals, and product bills of materials.

Requirements

• JD degree and membership in good standing of at least one United States state bar.
• 12–15 or more years of legal experience in a major law firm or in-house legal department, supporting product-related legal matters and technology transactions or licenses.
• At least 5 years of people management experience.
• Strong judgment, communication, organization, project management, and multitasking skills.
• Flexibility in working hours for a global enterprise and willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
