Head of Legal - Technology and Procurement (AI)

Location: Hybrid in Chicago, Illinois; applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without employment-based visa sponsorship.

Salary: $240,000–$350,000 annual base pay, plus a discretionary bonus program that may include equity.

What you will do

• Lead the global technology and procurement legal practice, including AI, cloud, data platforms, automation, software licensing, cybersecurity-adjacent contracting, and advanced analytics.
• Provide executive legal leadership for responsible AI adoption and advise senior stakeholders on emerging technology risks, opportunities, and regulatory requirements.
• Guide technology transactions covering intellectual property, data rights, service levels, operational resiliency, implementation, and exit obligations.
• Design and maintain legal intake and review frameworks, contract templates, playbooks, terms of use, and procurement standards.
• Support negotiation and escalation of complex, high-risk, and high-value vendor agreements.
• Lead, mentor, and develop technology and procurement lawyers while collaborating with Procurement, Data Privacy, Information Security, Risk, and Compliance.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school and a valid Illinois law license.
• At least 15 years of combined experience at a nationally recognized law firm and/or in-house legal department in relevant areas.
• Deep expertise in technology law, AI governance, data usage, privacy, intellectual property, commercial contracting, and legal governance.
• Experience drafting and negotiating AI, software licensing, distributed ledger technology, managed services, on-premises, and SaaS agreements.
• Understanding of financial-services regulation, enterprise risk management, third-party risk, cloud data requirements, outsourcing, and technology-related banking regulations.
• Experience advising executive management and managing legal teams and relationships with business partners, clients, and outside counsel.
