Staff Software Engineer - Backend (Rust)

Location: United States; remote role

What you will do

• Design and implement robust, testable, high-performance backend systems and tools in Rust.
• Optimize software architectures for speed, efficiency, and reliability.
• Participate in the full development lifecycle, including debugging, optimization, and quality improvement.
• Integrate third-party devices and data providers into the platform.
• Collaborate across engineering disciplines and contribute to peer reviews and technical decisions.

Requirements

• 7+ years of experience developing backend systems in fast-paced, high-performance environments.
• Experience in cybersecurity, operational technology, or industrial control systems.
• 3+ years of experience with relational databases such as PostgreSQL and NoSQL databases such as Elasticsearch.
• 3+ years of experience with microservices architecture.
• Rust proficiency or the demonstrated ability to become proficient quickly.
• Experience incorporating AI tools, models, or services into development workflows and leading technical decisions within a team or project.

Nice to have

• Experience building and operating distributed systems at scale with a focus on reliability.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, cloud-native architectures, Docker, Prometheus, and Grafana.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.
• Production experience with Kotlin, Go, or Python.
• Experience mentoring engineers or leading technical initiatives.
