Systems Engineer, Network Protocols & Distributed Systems (Rust)

Salary: Portugal-based hires: €54,000–€75,000 annually

What you will do

• Build and operate systems that terminate HTTP and TLS traffic at Internet scale.
• Migrate core infrastructure from NGINX to a next-generation Rust-based proxy.
• Measure and improve protocol performance using real-world traffic.
• Contribute to open-source projects and industry standards such as QUIC, MASQUE, and ECH.
• Collaborate with engineers working on networking, security, and large-scale infrastructure.

Requirements

• Solid systems programming experience with Rust, C, or a similar language.
• Interest in complex technical domains and willingness to learn HTTP, networking, and cryptography.
• Commitment to building reliable, secure, and performant software.
• Motivation to create technical and operational impact at Internet scale.
• Ability to work in a hybrid setup in London, Lisbon, or Austin.
